Metro Volunteer Lawyers Volunteer Appreciation Awards
Congratulations to the 22 honorees awarded at the 2024 MVL Volunteer Appreciation Reception on October 24, where MVL recognized the dedication of our volunteers. Metro Volunteer Lawyers is so grateful to all our volunteers, for the incredible work they do!
The winners are Jacob Lofgren, Rhonda Blair, Ashley Balicki, Jo Lauren Seavy, Amy Stengel, June F Bourrillion, Jim Aab, Andrea Montague, Josh Patton, Rebecca Givens, Florence Phillips, Judge Peter Michaelson, Lauren Lester, Alan Greenberg, Judge Edward Moss, Alan Hendrix, Erich Bailey, Kimberly Utesch, Bonnie Saltzman, Sarah Bella. Also, the Office of the Attorney General and Solutions Based Law Firm (Smith, Balicki, Finn, Laraway) won awards for the top firms.
DBA YLD Court Orientation CLE
On November 1, members of the DBA YLD and the greater Colorado legal community came together for an all-day Court Orientation at the City and County Building. This CLE program was made possible with special thanks to Judge Espinosa for letting the DBA YLD into his courtroom! The Court Orientation Event is designed to provide attendees with essential information about the judicial system, court procedures, and the roles of various court personnel.
DBA Young Lawyers Division Hike
On October 26, members of the DBA YLD enjoyed a day outdoors hiking in Chautauqua Park. Here’s to teamwork in all environments and enjoying the great outdoors together!
National Pro Bono Week October 20-26
According to the American Bar Association, pro bono work is a professional responsibility and an individual ethical commitment of each lawyer. The Denver Bar Association connects with legal professionals while they are in law school. Metro Volunteer Lawyers partnered with University of Denver Sturm College of Law students for a hands-on educational experience to do a “take-over” of our Denver Family Law Court Program. Students met with clients and completed all the necessary documents to start their family law matters in Court. Multiple clients reached out to thank the student volunteers to state that they did great work at the Clinic. Thank you, Arsh Khan, Del Schlangen, Parker Gilbert, Callan Garber, Kim Speer, Jonathan Gonzalez, Dane Bryant, Lisl Davies, Oluwatomi Olasunkanmi, Keegan Black, Mengdan Liao, and Pierce Dasent!
Pumpkin Pie 5k Run at City Park
Members of the DBA YLD braved the early morning cold at this year’s Pumpkin Pie 5k Race at City Park on November 16, hosted by the Colorado Runner. The Pumpkin Pie 5K/10K is Denver’s race that ends with a huge slice of pie. Runners and walkers can take advantage of a flat and fast course, and then enjoy a slice of sweet and tasty pumpkin pie at the finish. The mission of the run was to bring people together to have a fun, fit morning, all while supporting the many different needs throughout our region.
