Building Connections and Building Careers: The DBA-YLD Advantage

BY DBA YLD CHAIR JOSH MANGIAGLI

The Denver Bar Association: Young Lawyer’s Division (DBA-YLD) is a unique organization within the Denver legal community. When I first joined the DBA-YLD Executive Council, I sought to give back to the greater Denver community while connecting with like-minded individuals who shared a passion for self-improvement, the legal profession, and the community. What I found was more than just an organization – I discovered lifelong friendships and a supportive network of colleagues.

It is easy for young lawyers to feel isolated or overwhelmed. The DBA-YLD provides a space for young lawyers to ensure they feel they need help navigating their careers. It is a place where you can turn to others for advice, support, or just camaraderie. Being a part of the DBA-YLD community has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career.

Exceptional Programming for Young Lawyers

The DBA-YLD offers some of the best programming in the Denver legal community, supported by multiple committees focused on networking, community service, wellness, continuous legal education, and fun social events. One of the easiest ways to get involved is by attending our monthly happy hours, Barristers After Hours, which provide a relaxed environment to meet and connect with fellow young attorneys.

For those seeking professional development, we host monthly CLEs and an annual Court Orientation, which will be held on November 1 this year. This event will provide new lawyers with invaluable insights and best practices from judges, attorneys, and other professionals.

If community service is your passion, the DBA-YLD is committed to giving back through several events. On October 5, the DBA-YLD will host its annual Top Golf Fundraiser for Metro Volunteer Lawyers (MVL). Each year, we collect lightly used professional clothes to donate to high school mock trial students and adults in need. Additionally, we organize an annual fundraiser to support Metro Caring, a nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger in the Denver area.

The DBA-YLD also organizes sporting events for those who enjoy sports. On October 2, 2024, we are hosting a Colorado Rapids game event, offering a fun and unique way to connect with colleagues.

For young lawyers who are also parents, our Lawyers with Littles Committee hosts events specifically designed for lawyers with kids. These kid-friendly gatherings offer a great space for parents to connect with other attorneys in similar situations.

Whether you are interested in professional development, community service, socializing, wellness, or family-friendly activities, the DBA-YLD provides a wide variety of programming to suit all interests and help young lawyers thrive.

Why you Should Join the DBA-YLD

For law students and young lawyers, joining the DBA-YLD is a tremendous opportunity. It is not just about enhancing your career; it is about becoming a part of a community that supports growth at every level. Whether you are looking for professional development, a chance to give back, or just a group of peers who understand the challenges of starting a legal career, the DBA-YLD is here for you.
